Dottie Walters Was a Speaking Superstar

I received an email last Friday from the staff of Dottie Walters and it stated, "The Speaking Industry Lost One of It's Biggest Stars." For those of you who don't know, Dottie Walters and her daughter Lilly Walters Schermerhorn are authors of the bestselling book, "Speak and Grow Rich."

Dottie was my first speaking coach and were it not for Dottie I would not be on the platform inspiring audiences. What I enjoyed about Dottie was her passion for the speaking industry.

Make no mistake about it, Dottie worked with some of the best speakers in the world. People such as Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Bill Gove, and a host of other speakers.

Though Dottie has passed on, her spirit will be forever present in my life and that of other speakers and authors. In parting, I say farewell Dottie Walters you gave life everything you had and you did not hold back.

I am proud to say Dottie Walters gave me the chance to be a regular contributor to her magazine, "Sharing Ideas." Sharing Ideas provides its readership with cutting edge insight on the speaking industry and recommendations to help you make important decisions in your professional speaking business.

Go to www.amazon.com and purchase "Speak and Grow Rich" and you will understand why Dottie and Lilly's contribution to the speaking industry is so profound. After all, she helped establish the foundation for the National Speakers Association.

Become an Expert Speaker

It never fails after one of my speaking engagements that a member of the audience will approach me and ask, "How can I become a speaker?" The first thing I do is look at them and then politely respond, "Are you ready for this?"

I will be the first to tell anyone, speaking is not the faint of heart. In fact, speaking is for the courageous at heart.

The ultimate adrenaline rush is becoming a professional speaker. Once you become a professional speaker, you in essence become an expert speaker.

Why? It takes your entire being to do what professional speakers do. Things such as learning the industry, hiring coaches, writing speeches, radio and television interviews and all things media related.

Oh by the way, did I mention practicing. Most importantly where will your initial speaking engagements come from and will they be fee paid?

The best way to become a speaker for the ages is to become a student of the game. The game as it pertains to professional speaking is to remove all doubts about your abilities to resonate with an audience.

I look forward to seeing you on the platform being an expert. Keep practicing.
