Paul Lawrence Vann

I'm glad you stopped by to read my blog. Why?

On the picture above, I'm participating at the 1st Annual Howard University Alumni, Author Booksigning in Silver, Spring, Maryland. This event allowed gave me an opportunity to talk about my book and how it inspires people to achieve their own success.

Numerous authors from the metropolitan Washington, DC area also discussed their books, inspired the audience, and sold books as well. The greatest value was networking with members of the audience because they remember you and will likely see you at the next author event taking place in the area.

I encourage each of you to consider writing your book and when you do, contact me to coaching you through the process. Also visit my revised website at http://www.paullawrencevann.com/.

John Amaechi - Author: Man In the Middle

Lee Ivory (Host) John Amaechi (Author)

When you meet John Amechi the first thing that comes to mind is how intelligent he is. John
played professional basketball for the NBA for five years.

He is considered to be one of the most intelligent people inthe world. Standing 6'9 and weighing 320 pounds, he made quite an impact on the NBA. John is the only person of British descent to play in the NBA and he represented them well.

John Amechi wrote The Man in The Middle to open discuss and have a conversation about being a gay athlete. At the Capitol BookFest he confronted questions such as, "Are you going to get married?"

A journalist also asked, "Does the fact that you are gay cause problems for you in your business?" John Amechi is a clinical pyschologist and works with corporations in his profession.

Being a diversity expert, I understand where John Amechi is coming from. In other words, labels build barriers for people who don't conform to the norms and mores of society as we know it today.

I asked John if he was going to write more books in the future and he informed me that he is planning to write more books in the future. During the time I spoke with him I discovered that John Amechi is a great human being.

Being an author allowed me an opportunity to meet John Amechi it helped me understand the depth of his intellect. We should all take a lesson from John, we all have mountains of potential inside of us, the only thing we have to do is cultivate it.

Kwame Alexander - Crossland High School: Book In a Day Program

On the evening of October 2, 2007, I attended a reception hosted by Kwame Alexander at Border Books at the Blvd at Cap Center. Kwame is Co-Founder of the Capital BookFest, this is the third year for this outstanding community literacy oriented event.

On the picture above you will find me with two of 20 co-authors of the book, invisible? The young man to my left is Malcolm Towler and the young lady to my right is Jasmine Taylor.

This is the first book for Malcolm, Jasmine and the 18 other co-authors. I encourage you to buy invisible? We must support these outstanding Crossland High School students because they represent our future and as you can see this book is just the beginning for these students.

Let me explain how this book was written and published because it represents excellence. As I stated earlier, Kwame Alexander and Carla Nelson are Co-founders of the Capitol BookFest and each year they come up with a different work, specifically in a book genre.

This year Kwame had this brilliant idea. What if you put 20 high school students into a classroom for one day and taught them how to craft good poems--baiku, free verse, etc.---and just let them write about anything they wanted. Allow them to express their thoughts, feelings, ideas (drama) about their world. And, what if you equipped these students with the tools to actually publish a collection of those poems. In one day?

Could they summon the focus and courage to accomplish such a lofty goal? Kwame stated, "Could I show them how to Do The Write Thing in 24 hours?" Would it be fun and insightful? Could they produce a piece of work that made them no longer.... invisible?

The answer is a resounding yes, because 20 Crossland High School students co-wrote "invisible? in one day as a part of Kwame Alexander's Book-in-a-Day program. To learn more about Kwame Alexander and his program visit: http://www.bookinaday.com.

The ISBN 13 for the book invisible? is: 978-1-888018-39-4. I challenge each of you reading this blog to purchase this book of poetry because it represents the best of the students at Crossland High School, all of Prince Georges County, and the entire state of Maryland and it lets you know, these students are not invisible by any stretch of the imagination.

By the way, Malcom and Jasmine autographed my copy of Invisible?, and I know this is just the beginning for them and the other co-authors. We must stand with them as they put their message into the world, the best way to support them is by purchasing invisible?

I encourage you to attend the 2007 Capitol BookFest on October 7, at Border Books located at the Blvd at Cap Center from 10:00-7:00pm. I want to see you there and to purchase Invisible?

Visit http://www.capitalbookfest.org/ to see the full day schedule and if you get there early you will receive a free copy of the newly commissioned book Kwame's team published.

Karibu Books Is the Best Bookstore Because of These Two People

In order to be the best you have to work with the best. Last weekend I was fortunate to be selected to volunteer to work at the Authors Pavilion with Karibu Books at the CBC.

Why? Its rare to be able to work with people of excellence. Lee McDonald on this picture to my left and Patrice is to my right. These two people made my Authors Pavilion experience extraordinary because they are great to work with and for.

If you want to have a great volunteer experience working with Karibu Books, this is the team you want to work with. They work extremely smart and hard.

Imagine being responsible for thousands of books and managing celebrity guest at the same time. This is no small understaking by any stretch of the immagination.

They worked with Eddie Levert, Lyah Leflore, William Rhoden, Congressman Rangel, Doug and Jackie Christie, June Cross, Victoria Rowell, Donda West, Master P, Russell Simmons, Dr. Charles Olgetree, Wellingto Webb, Sheron Umi Smith and a host of local authors.

Take my word for it, I saw excellence in action. I encourage you to support Karibu Books because they sell every genre of book in the world. Make Karibu Books your bookstore of choice.

Visit Karibu Books at: http://www.karibubooks.com/. Tell them Paul sent you.

Paul and Master P at the 2007 Authors Pavilion

Get your groove on. Hi its me Paul Lawrence Vann saying, "Get off the sidelines of life and get in the game of life!"

Karibu Books is my favorite book store because of the wonderful people that own and manage this company. Take a look at this picture with me and Master P. This man has his head on his shoulders, in other words he knows how to handle his business.

You can learn a lot from him and he is cool and calm under all situations. Master P was autographing his book at the 2007 Authors Pavilion hosted by Karibu Books.
